Two Storey Extension – January 2009
On 5th January 2009 – the agreed date – a whirlwind arrived in the shape of Chesterfield builders Sean and his brother Peter. Twelve weeks later they left having done “just what it says on the tin”. They came every weekday, worked extremely hard, finished within the timescale quoted, and did a good job. The neighbours and the post lady were all impressed by their attitude and performance, from Sean’s energy to Peter’s organising skills. The “just in time” highlight was the departure of the scaffolding lorry followed 20 minutes later by the arrival of the roof trusses which were unloaded directly onto the top level of the just-erected scaffolding!
We had a few hiccups along the way, but Sean and Peter quickly came up with solutions each time, and we now have a conversion, extension and new garage that we are really pleased with.
Remember the two weeks of snow in February? Due to having the foresight to turn up the previous Saturday morning to finish off the roof felting, they were able to carry on working every day except one when they physically couldn’t get the van anywhere near our house.
When they started digging foundations I foresaw weeks of mud – I was wrong – the mud was all over within a week. They tidied up each evening before they left, and spent their last day making the whole site as clean and tidy as reasonably possible.
Their Dad helps out with the bricklaying as well, so they are a real family team.
Some of our neighbours were so impressed with what they saw that at least four requests for quotations for other work were received whilst Sean and Peter were working here.
And the bit you really want to know – would we employ them again? Yes.
