Two storey extension and Loft Conversion – September to December 2010
In September 2010 and after several false dawns we were finally able to proceed with our first floor side extension and loft conversion. Architect’s plans and surveys had been completed, Council planning permission granted. All that remained was the thorny issue of who to entrust with the build. After seeking recommendations from, amongst others, our architect and other tradesmen one name in particular kept appearing, that of Hewitt Construction.
Our request for an estimate was promptly followed by a site visit by Sean and Pete and shortly thereafter by a comprehensive breakdown of costs with no pressure exerted.
We had to wait a while for work to begin as they explained their policy of working on one project at a time. I was reassured by this as good tradesmen are always in demand and worth waiting for.
As work began it was noticeable that they liaised well with the planning authorities and the inevitable building inspector. As time progressed the arrival of materials and other tradesmen was carefully managed.
Of particular note was the care taken to protect the property from the vagaries of the British weather once the roof had been removed. This included the extension of the scaffolding to include an overall panelled roof. This could be seen from a considerable distance and became something of a local talking point.
Major projects are inevitably liable to minor tweaks here and there and ours was no exception. They were pro active in dealing with such matters and always consulted us over any changes.
Our payments were also staggered over the time of the build to our convenience and no money was requested before work began and then only when we were completely satisfied as to the quality of work that had already been carried out.
Overall we have found that the quality of their workmanship to be of the highest standard and have no hesitation in recommending their services to others in the future.
